German game studio Wooga has shuttered its Japanese office as part of its recent restructuring efforts.
Back in August, the company laid off 40 employees — roughly 10 percent of its total workforce — as it attempted to refocus on the casual market.
Following those cuts, Wooga closed down internal studio, Black Anvil Games, again citing the need to tighten up and shift its development operations.
The company’s two-year-old Tokyo office was only small, and Wooga has managed to relocate most of the Japan team to its headquarters in Berlin — although two members of staff were let go.
“Unfortunately the future of this office was affected as part of our strategy shift to focus exclusively on casual games in August,” read a statement given to PocketGamer.biz.
“In light of that change, we felt it necessary to once again centralize and focus all localization efforts from our office in Berlin.”
Wooga thanked those affected for their hard work over the past two years.
