Nintendo’s latest Direct video broadcast had something for everyone. New games, old games, new subscription services, and a slew of famous actors for the upcoming animated Super Mario Bros. movie were all on hand.
The highest-profile new titles Nintendo debuted included a 3D open-world adventure for Kirby, titled Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and a first look at Platinum Games’ Bayonetta 3.
Splatoon 3, another of Nintendo’s first-party games, will be getting a single-player adventure mode, breaking away from the multiplayer-only versions of earlier titles in the series.
The recently-rumored updates to Nintendo Switch Online services’ console emulators also turned out to be partly true. But instead of Game Boy titles, Nintendo is adding a selection of Nintendo 64 games and Sega Genesis games to its online arsenal—but to access them, players will need to purchase an “expansion pack” subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service.
Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to purchase Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis-themed controllers for the Switch to help sell the experience of playing these classic consoles.
And most chaotically, Shigeru Miyamoto joined the stream to announce the release date and cast of the Super Mario Bros. movie. Longtime Mario actor Charles Martinet is passing the red hat on to Guardians of the Galaxy and Parks & Recreation actor Chris Pratt, while Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Seth Rogen, and other veteran comedy actors round out the cast.
Martinet will apparently be on hand for “cameos.”
The company’s holiday lineup is a bit thinner this year due to a mix of delayed games and far-off titles like the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but there will still be a health selection of games waiting for players who get a new Switch in December.

Monster Hunter Rise, one of Capcom’s massively popular titles on Nintendo Switch, is getting new downloadable content titled Sunbreak.
Square Enix and Yoko Taro have teamed up to create Voice of Cards: The Dragon Isle Roars, an RPG that’s styled like a card-based tabletop game.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is getting new downloadable content.
Square Enix showed off a game called ChocoboGP—a very Mario Kart-inspired game that features Final Fantasy characters.
Animal Crossing will be receiving some long-awaited downloadable content in November, which includes the addition of Brewster and his café in the museum.
Mario Golf Super Rush is getting new downloadable content.
Upcoming games Hot Wheels Unleashed, Surviving the Aftermath, Shin Megami Tensei V, Wreckfest, and Rune Factory 5 were all teased with upcoming release dates.
A selection of previously-released games including Disney Magical World 2: Enchanted Edition, Knights of the Old Republic, Disco Elysium: The Final Cut, Dying Light, Harebrained Schemes’ Shadowrun games, a collection of Castlevania’s Game Boy Advance titles, and Deltarune Chapter 2 will all soon be available on Nintendo Switch.
Techland’s upcoming game Dying Light 2 will be playable on Switch via cloud streaming technology. It follows in Control’s footsteps of using the tech to allow higher-performance title to be playable on Nintendo’s portable console.
Square Enix is releasing a remastered version of Actraiser, a Super NES role-playing game that mixed sidescrolling combat with citybuilding.
